The Fukuwatari story

From Farm to the World.

Before there was a house to welcome guests, there was a farm. Our story begins there, in the Japanese countryside.

Our founder

Yoshifuku Hirata

In his early twenties, Yoshifuku Hirata worked for Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Embassy of Japan in the United Arab Emirates. Living abroad gave him a new appreciation for home. He returned to Japan, left the Ministry and began farming, growing more than 60 varieties of vegetables.

What began with vegetables grew into food, transport and hospitality for visitors to Japan. Today, Yoshi brings that same personal care to the people he welcomes at Fukuwatari Tei.

In his own words

Our farming roots

It began with the soil.

On the farm, Yoshi learned to work with the weather and the seasons. A harvest was never his alone. It depended on rain, sunlight, living soil and the hands that tended it.

Itadakimasu, the thanks offered before a meal, came to mean more. So did Mottainai, the care we take not to waste what we have. These are still part of everyday life here. Guests can join in farming and harvesting when the season allows.

The Fukuwatari Tei experience

One house.
One group.
One experience.

We welcome just one group at a time. The house is yours, and we get to know the people staying in it. Before a meal, we pause together to say Itadakimasu. Then we eat, talk and take our time.

Arrange a tea ceremony, try Japanese cooking or spend an afternoon with flowers and a teacher. Seasonal activities and traditional crafts are part of the stay, with time for a Japanese bath, the wood-fired sauna or an evening beside the fire.

We plan transport, meals and experiences with you before arrival, confirming availability and any additional charges.

What we believe

Japanese Spirits
Make People Better.

We believe the care found in Japanese daily life is worth sharing. Respect for food, consideration for others and comfort in silence are not ours alone. We welcome anyone who wants to spend a little time living this way.

Looking ahead

Where we go next.

The house is our beginning. We hope to bring the same care to food, tea, fragrance, agriculture, wellness and other products, and one day to Fukuwatari homes beyond Japan. These are ambitions for the future. For now, we look forward to welcoming you here.
